I feel like everyone's education has been impacted in one way or another during the pandemic. Most schools have fully closed down and gone virtual. Other schools remain in person, or offer virtual schooling. Either way, students are having more stress in school. Virtual school offers more distractions, and the pandemic has prevented many students from meeting their friends. Schools and education systems have been searching for methods to alleviate stress and negative feelings during the pandemic, and our school decided on "Wellness Wednesdays."

Wellness Wednesdays are used as a time for students to relax and focus on their mental well-being. However, some students are facing more stress on Wednesdays, ironically. This is because clubs and organizations decide to hold their meetings Wednesday, which is seen as a free day for students. As a result, students are stretched thin and some people have hectic Wednesdays. Furthermore, scheduling can be a nightmare for clubs.

I was talking with my parents about the whole situation, and then I realized that I could use data science to bring light to it. Consequently, I reached out to the DRHS Administrative Team and asked them if I could poll the students to see if everyone had these problems. Once I collected the data, the results surprised me. While most students struggled with the work assigned, not all of them had increased stress. However, there was still a good portion of students that felt more stress on Wednesdays, and which is the complete opposite effect we were striving for. After they agreed and sent out a form I created, I began working with R to create accurate models for the data. This time, it only took me about 2 days to finish the data models, and another day to create the presentation. The presentation itself was a piece of cake. It went very smoothly, and the Administrative Team appreciated the thoroughness of it. Overall, I learned new things about my fellow students and about bar graphs in R. You can find my presentation attached to the bottom of this blog!
